Abby's Home & Hi/Lo Thursday

[pic: yep, that about sums it up. This was Abby shortly after getting home today.]

Here is Abby's latest video if you haven't seen it: http://www.riggsfamilyblog.com/2009/01/about-abby.html
We can hardly say "thank you" enough for the thousands of prayers being lifted on her behalf. We have been so encouraged by all the kindness and comments. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO IS PRAYING AND LETTING PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT ABBY! Dozens of you left prayer requests in our comments, and by email, and as we get time to read those, we'll comment more on them.

When she went to bed two nights ago, she told us she was feeling really bad, but couldn't tell us what was "feeling bad". By the time we got to the clinic today, she was very cranky - not normal at all. Her doctor checked the pressure in her head when they injected chemo in her spinal column. Her intracranial pressure was 3 times normal. Ouch. No wonder she was cranky. Thank goodness morphine can take away the pain even when she communicate what is going on.

Please keep praying for either healing and a solution to this problem. They increased her medication for the pressure. For those who have asked about surgically correcting the problem (VP shunt), it is not an option at this time. The chemo is wiping out her immune system.

By the time we got home, Abby was feeling much better. We had a quiet evening, doing craft projects (Abby's new favorite thing) and watching Leap Frog videos. Normally the videos would have driven us batty, but we treasured every moment. Now on to....

Hi/Lo Thursday

Hi/Lo Thursday is when we post our "high" and "low" for this past week... the highlight and lowlight... the best and worst. We invite you to post your "hi/low" on your own blog (or leave a comment if you don't have a blog) and use the simple form below (it puts your link in this post) to help us create a wonderful, interesting list of hi/lo's for others to read!

Our High from this past week:

That's easy... it's the overwhelming response we have seen from people who have visited our blog and told us they were praying for Abby as she started this difficult phase of treatment.

It is incredible to watch as people tell people who tell people who tell people about Abby. We are touched everyday with the stories of people who find renewed faith from some contact with our journey.

Our Low from this past week:

Unfortunately, that's easy too. Yesterday.

Abby came home tired and emotional which was predictable. Sadly, it's predictable too that she will hit rock bottom probably by the weekend.

She cries easily because of the constant discomfort and uncertainty, but in between those times, she is happy and just looking to have fun like any four year old, although it's very fragile fun. Okay, now its YOUR turn...

Here's how you get your link on our blog for Hi/Lo Thursday:
  • Go to your blog, write your post about "Hi/Lo" Thursday. Begin your blog with the following sentence. Just copy and paste this to begin your post:

This post is part of "Hi/Lo Thursday" on Riggs Family Blog (www.riggsfamilyblog.com):

  • After writing your post, use the form below to enter your blog title, and the link to YOUR POST.

That's it! You'll be linked in today's entries and we'll have a fun and inspiring list of "hi/lo's" for everyone to read! We look forward to reading and leaving a comment on your Hi/Lo Thursday post!

I was recently hospitalized with leaking spinal fluid and a "spinal" headache, and I sobbed like a baby. I cannot possibly imagine what Abby is feeling right now. Three times the pressure and she's still hanging in there? Incredible. My heart and prayers are with her during this time. God bless you all.

I would say the Hi of this week would be a fellow blogging family bringing home their daughter after two and a half years. THey too have lived with her for most of that time. Congrats to them.

The Lo, seeing your daughter so sick with this horrible disease. It makes me both angry and sad. Praying she is able to handle this intensive round.

I can't count how many times I prayed for your Abby yesterday. Every time I prayed for our Abbey, I prayed for yours. I put a post about your Abby yesterday on our blog (www.colbert-family.blogspot.com) so I know many here in Ohio (and friends of our around the country are praying for you guys). I'm glad yesterday is over. I will continue to pray continually. Michelle - I also wanted to tell you that as I laid in bed last night I spent a lot of time in prayer for you. I know how hard those nights can be... the night a new phase starts and new chemo is put in their bodies and the waiting and wondering to see how their little bodies will react. I am praying for God to carry you (and all of you) as you continue on in your journey.

I am always amazed at your faith, strength, and attitude. I like your hi/low idea and am looking forward to doing this on a weekly basis.

Totally unrelated, but everytime I read "spideylandis" I laugh. Cute nickname!

I pray that Abby doesn't "crash" this weekend as you alluded to, and am happy to read that she is back at home.

Abby, you are just a little angel, those eyes melt you. Praying for a peaceful, pain free,week-end for all of you. Chemo is so hard on adults, but a child...i am keeping you all in my prayers constantly believing a miracle will be performed, God is still on the throne and He will not put more on us than we can bare, and the greatest of all, He goes through every step of the situation with us. Keep up your amazing faith and trust you have in God, Abby is blessed to have gotten a family like yours, to be there for her, to love her, and give her the care she needs now, it shows how much she is loved.

I pray Abby each night in solitude on my back porch under the big star lit sky. I watched the latest video, and when Abby is in the hall dancing and acting silly with 2 of her siblings, she reminds me of my daugher. My daughter even wore those same pj's last night. She is the same size as my daughter and has some of her same movements. It hit home for me. What if this were me? What if Abby was Eva? No child should have to go through such pain and no parent should have to risk losing thier child. But they do. So, I pray. We all are praying. God bless you sweet Abby.

I live in Alabama and have been following your blog for about a month. Abby is such a gorgeous child and it hurts my heart to think of what all she is going through. You are all in our thoughts and prayers! I know that God has the ability to heal because he healed my Mom of a cancer that gave her only 18 months to live. She is now in remission 71/2 years later!
Just out of curiousity, are your older kids around to help out? I see their pics at the top of the blog but they are never mentioned other than Dane.

I just found your blog last night and am praying. My daughter, Jordyn joined Jesus 8 1/2 yrs ago after a 14 mo. battle against AML leukemia. I'm absolutely praying for Abby and your family.

I joined in on the Hi/Lo too!

God Bless and just praying that God gives the miracle we all want, but no matter praising him through it all.

Oh, we are praying, praying, praying!!! Tuesday I prayed and fasted nearly all day for your Abby. I posted the link to this site on my facebook page, and my sister-in-law called (and she rarely does) just to tell me that she saw it and that she is praying. Everyone loves Abby! Abide in Him through this time.

I've added a Pray for Abby badge/link to my blog & set out prayer requests to my prayer faithful. After I sent it to my sister - mom of my nephew who was diagnosed w/leukemia at age 4 - she called me crying. Her first words were, "We are so blessed." This is an amazingly hard road, but there are many holding Abby and your family up to the Lord.

Praying for you in Georgia.
