Hi/Lo Thursday: Prayer List... Peter Parker... Abby Update

It's Hi/Lo Thursday where we get to know each other by sharing our HIGH and our LOW for the week. What a great way to really find out something about each other.

Our HIGHS: (from Brent)
Prayer List

There was a great response to Pray for Me... Pray for Others. I'm sure over time this will become a huge community of prayer each Wednesday.

Did you check back a couple of times to see new entries today? Did you pray for any of them?

Peter Parker

SpideyLandis is a hoot. He is well on his way to being potty trained, thanks to some of your GREAT ideas. He is enamored with his spidey-drawers and says he "poops on the potty like Peter Parker!".

SpideyLandis gives love to his new spideythrone.

One great idea was to have Spiderman call him and congratulate SpideyLandis (Scott B? Are you listening? You know you're the man for this job!). So after a few more days of success we'll have Spiderman call his spideysidekick and give him a personal thumbs up.

In the meantime, here's SpideyLandis LIVE tell you all about it:

Our LOWS: (from Michelle)

Predictably, our lows have to do with Abby being sick. We don't want people to think we focus on, or unnecessarily linger on the negative about her. There are tremendous trials the come with her Leukemia and we try to transparently share the whole reality even though that is considered a "negative confession" by some of our friends (and yes, they are still our friends; we can disagree and still love each other).

Abby gets some blue gatorade from Mom into her feeding
tube with medicine that raises her acid level.
This is supposed to help with her nausea.

Abby's Throwing Up

Thank you so much for praying for Abby and for allowing us to pray for you. I love getting to know you and having the opportunity to pray for you.

The doctors best guess for the blood Abby was throwing up yesterday is a tear in her esophagus, caused by the vomiting. It breaks my heart. They can't run tests to confirm it since she is so weak from the tough chemo, but they are giving her with medication to help it. Thanks to your suggestions and prayers, Abby is throwing up less than she was before. At the worst, she was getting sick 30 times a day, now it is less than 15. Still not good, but at least better.

Before we asked for your suggestions, we were already giving her Zofran every 6 hours and Phenegran every 4 hours, around the clock. Those help, but she was still very sick. We are have been trying your suggestion, and many seem to be helping.

Of the ones we have tried, sniffing rubbing alcohol, Emetrol and cokes seem to be helping the most. The alcohol trick surprised me, but it really helps break the cycle, when she is getting sick. We are trying more of your suggestions every day trying to find a combination that works. Thank you so much for taking the time to give us your suggestions.

Abby has been admitted to the hospital 17 times, since she was diagnosed on July 11, 08. We appreciate her doctors making an effort to keep her home as much as possible.

I'm glad to hear that some of the suggestions are helping a little. The gatorade should help in regulating her acid level. I wonder if Pedialyte would be even better? I've never checked the label so I'm not sure if it has more electrolytes than gatorade, but either one should definitely make a difference. Hydration is key. As for her esophagus, God bless her...they're probably right about that because it makes a lot of sense. I hope that the docs are giving her something to heal it...Nexium is what they give adults (like me) for acid reflux and esophageal tearing, and it works like a charm. (I guess that's why they think they can charge $150 for 30 pills!!!)

Abby is on my mind throughout the day and night and remains in my prayers.

Just wanted you to know that although we are strangers, I have just fallen in love with your family and your sweet little warrior girl. I think of her- and your family- often throughout the day and pause to lift you up in prayer and to beg God for Abby's healing and for peace and comfort for her while she fights and for your family while you try to stay strong for her. Blessings to you all and I will continue to pray fervently for you! - Angela

I have been praying for your sweet little Abby. Her face draws me in every time I see it. Could I have your permission to print off a photo of her to place in my car. I would like to be reminded to pray for her when I am in the car and I thought having her photo there would be helpful.

Also, I personally would never think that you were concentrating on lows for Abby. What she is going through is not the norm for little ones and hearing your honesty about what she is going through make me and I am sure others feel the need to lift her up in prayer even more often!! We will her the bad parts now so we can rejoice in the good when this is a part of Abby's past!

Blessings, Lisa C.

I have been keeping up with your blog and I just want to tell you that I appreciate you being honest about the difficulties. It helps us know more specifically how to pray for her and for you. And it honestly makes you more real and your faith all the more genuine. So thank you for sharing your highs as well as your lows. You are all in my prayers. And God is using your family in mighty ways!

POOR SWEET BABY, MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOUR FAMILY DURING THIS TRYING TIME.
I ONCE WAS SICK WITH GANGE GREEN IN MY BELLY - LONG STORY...BUT I HAD A SWEET WOMAN THAT WANDERED INTO MY ROOM (SHE WAS VISITING SOMEONE AT THE HOSPITAL) DURING ONE OF MY MANY FITS OF SEVER VOMITING AND WRAPED A COLD WET TOWEL AROUND MY NECK, SAID IT WAS ONE OF HER GRANNY'S OLD REMIDIES. ANYWAYS IT WORKED WONDERS!!! THE NURSES EVEN STARTED TO ADMINISTER IT AFTERWARDS. MAYBE IT WILL HELP ABBY.

It is important that the facts are revealed in their true light, because if we sugar coat the situation than it takes away from the Glory that God receives in the end. However, at the same time, we must know that we do NOT have to settle for fact. Jesus came for this very reason..to heal Abby! We recognize fact, but we KNOW the TRUTH, which is God's holy word. TRUTH ALWAYS CONQUERS FACT! Truth says, Jesus came to heal us, deliver us from our destructions and satisfy us with a long life! Fact is Abby's not feeling well right now! Truth is she IS healed in the name of Jesus! Reveal the facts, but continue to SPEAK the truth over her! Although we dwell in this world, When we belong to Jesus, we are no longer OF this world! Jesus overcame this world so that through Him we can overcome this world and all the evil that is in it.(1 John 5:4) Therefore the facts of this world no longer pretain to us. Do not settle for fact. Do not be discouraged by fact. Instead hold on to the truth! Hold on and never let go! God is always faithful!

We continue to pray for your wonderful family!

I just wanted to add that the pic of Landis and his potty along with the video is just too cute for words! :) My oldest son would only wear Superhero underwear for the first 8 years of his life (he turned 10 today) So naturally to him they weren't underwear, but rather "Wonder" wear. He still calls them that to this day!

Also be thankful that your potty chair doesn't sing everytime he uses it. With two toddlers running around, I'm constantly having to endure the toilet paper song, "Toilet paper, toilet paper, on a roll, next to me, I can use a few squares, maybe one or two squares, how bout three. Hooray for me!" Trust me, it soon gets old! :)
Hope that made you smile a little!

I am so happy the nausea is somewhat better. I am praying you can find the right combination of ideas to keep this under control.
We are also praying for peace and rest for the entire family.

I'm so glad Abby is feeling some better! Every little improvement helps. :)

One thing to be aware of, Coke will literally eat up the ends of feeding tubes. It's an old nursing trick to unclog clogged tubes with a syringe of Coke BUT... the trick was not to use Coke so much that it ate up the tube. Just a little something to think about.

Praying for your family!

Still praying for Abby and her family. It's amazing how much someone you have never met, stays on your mind and heart all the time with so much love for them, but then again, we have never seen Jesus...He is in our hearts all the time...and we sure do Love Him. I pray that God will wrap your family in His loving arms and keep you all there through this storm. He is the great physician. God Bless you . I pray for comfort, rest, and peace for Abby, she has been through so much, and can't wait until your next post to hear that she is feeling better. God can wipe all the cancer from that little body, i do believe that. Love and prayers for you all.

Another thought for Spideylandis and the potty...have you thought of hiring a Spidey suit and getting Spiderman himself to turn up and congratulate Landis? I bet that would encourage him and might even put a smile on Miss Abby's face to have a real hero in the house.

On another note I'm a bit surprised that friends would criticize you for telling the reality of Abby's situation. Your post are always so real and honest...leukemia is not pretty and you are not afraid to show it. But your site always sticks to its promise of being a place where laughter lives! Please continue to share the highs AND lows on your journey.
