Abby Daily Update: Headaches

Abby has had a rough couple of weeks.
I won't gross you out with the details, but lets just say her "stomach" problems included more than end of her body. For those of you who have adopted internationally, I even got to collect "samples" again. ;-0

The great news is: she has now gone over 24 hours without vomiting or having diarrhea. Now that she isn't nauseated she is eating like a pig (her words). She ate more last night than she has eaten in the last 2 weeks combined (literally). We are praising God her stomach problems are better and that she is eating.

The not so good news is: they took her off of two medicines that they suspected were causing her stomach problems. There is now no doubt they were the cause. The medicines they discontinued were to control her increased intracranial pressure (spine and brain). When the pressure goes up she gets migraines. If the pressure is too high, too long it can damage her eyes and brain.

Abby is having headaches today. We are taking her to get blood work done.

The headaches are most likely because of her spinal fluid pressure. Since they've taken her off the medicines that kept the spinal pressure under control, the only alternative is to have them stick a needle in her spine and drain off fluid.

It's pick your poison right now (no pun intended since chemo is pure poison): either high spinal pressure and frequent spinal drains, or medicine that makes you throw up constantly.
How would you like to have that choice?

I'm glad she's able to eat and not be nauseus...

honestly i think nausea is probably the worst thing because it affects you emotionally as well as physically.

As scared as i am of needles, i'd rather take one than feeling like i'm gonna throw up all the time.

sending positive light and prayers your way...

also, wanted to know if there was a mailing address should anyone want to send a little package to abby?

:)

I would hate it and I hate that you have to make that choice. But I do know that you will make the BEST choice for Abby and we will continue to ask Our Lord for comfort and strength for your whole family.

I found your website thru another blogger this weekend. I just cried and prayed for sweet Abby. My son had a brian tumor removed at 15 months. I thought it was a death sentence but we are blessed to have a healthy 10 year old today. We went thru a traumatic time though. We are also foster and adoptive parents. Ya'll are awesome. Hang in there. She is a blessing and she is being covered in prayer. May God bless your beautiful family and wrap His arms around you all during this difficult time. I pray for healing for Abby and strenght for the rest of your family. God bless!

Dear Abby and the Riggs Family,
Personally I'm glad I don't have to make the choices you do, but I feel any choice you make will be guided by our Savior.
It's so nice that Abby has reached a point of eating. Pray that the next decision, no matter what it might be, will still provide Abby the greatest comfort achievable.
Praying for GOD to once again lead you to what is best for your precious little Abby.
We will continue to lift Abby in our Prayers.
Love and Prayers,
Joyce and Nick

I would hate to have to make that choice. If it were me though I would chose the needles. I can't see my back and I really hate to throw up. If I can't see what they are doing maybe it wouldn't be so bad! I just can't imagine. Anyway she still has a beautiful smile!! I'm so glad she is eating like a pig! Still praying! Faith

Is it okay that I'm glad I don't have to make those kind of decisions? As parents, I am sure you'd rather make them for yourself, but to decide what your daughter has to endure must be so difficult. I will pray God will guide your decision and the Holy Spirit give you peace with the decision you will make.

A horrific choice to make! May God guide you and give you CONFIDENCE and PEACE in your many decisions!

poor abby :(
you are all in my prayers. I am a first time commenter on your blog although I have been reading for awhile now. I cannot imagine how difficult it must be for you all to see your precious daughter in such a way. May God grant healing and peace.
God Bless,
Katie

Poor baby. I've had migraines for a long time, and they are horrible. Little children should not have to go through that. I pray daily to understand her situation. I know that God's will is unkown to us at this time, but as my favorite saying is "if He brings you to it, He will bring you though it" has to apply here. You guys are in my thoughts and heart.

Both choices are miserable. Poor Abby. Praying that they can find another medicine or at least make the procedure to drain the fluid as painless as possible!

BUT - what a BEAUTIFUL smile!

Poor, dear Abby. I can't imagnie what it must be like to be in her little shoes.

Can't imagine what your baby girl is going through. I remember the post-epidural headache, and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. This sounds so much worse. Me, personally, I'd much rather take a needle.

We're praying for you.

I wish I had words to take all the pain away. You are touching so many lives by sharing your story and faith.
Praying for blessings upon your family,

I always love the Abby updates ... but hope you don't forget about the other kids. I love to hear about them too. Which, by the way, leads me to a question or two I've been meaning to ask ...

I know next to nothing about your 4 oldest kids, and I've been reading your blog for quite some time. So ...

#1 Which kids live at home ... which have moved on?
#2 If they've moved on ... where are they?
#3 How old are all the "big kids" and what are they doing with their lives.

My blog, too, has more daily stories of the little ones. But, I hope my readers know about all of my "big kids", too.

Not a judgement at all ... just always curious ...

Many Blessings,

Laurel :)
