Abby is HOME! I love being home. ABBY loves being home.
Abby had some tummy problems because of the chemo, but she is really handling it well so far. She didn't complain AT ALL when I woke her up every two hours last night to go to the bathroom. She is tired today, but never complains. She is an amazing young lady. Thank you so much for praying for us. God is so good to our family.
Abby needs chemo tomorrow and Friday. It looks like I will be able to administer it myself at home. That will make things so much easier for us.
Yesterday, they had a hard time sedating Abby during her spinal tap. She was more awake than we prefer, anxious and remembers the procedure. Abby will need spinal taps for the next TWO years, so that they can bathe her brain in chemo. Nice, huh? The last thing we want is for Abby to be scared of the procedures, doctors or hospital. There are so many things she has to go through that I am not able to make better. I want her to be as comfortable as possible.
Abby is very resistant to sedation now, so they are going to have the pain management team (anesthesiologists and nurse practitioners) handle the sedation in the future. This means they'll use the same sedation used in operating rooms to sedate Abby during the spinal tap. There are MANY hospitals/clinics who are already doing this on a routine basis for their pediatric cancer patients, but this is new for our hospital. I am so thankful they are willing to try this with Abby. Hopefully it will help other patients in the future too. Thank you so much for praying for Abby during her procedures. This is a direct answer to prayer.
Thank you again for all you are doing for our family. Abby loves hearing your messages, and seeing pictures & videos of the people who are praying for her. A special thank you to all of the students who have sent Abby cards. She LOVED looking at each of them. You made her hospital room much brighter. Thank you.

Cards, gifts and Valentines in her hospital room.

Chemo, schkemo... a chocolate donut makes all things well.

Praise God that you can spend the next few days at home! Something about being at home makes being sick just a bit better!
Still praying for you!
I'm so glad you guys made it home! Abby remains in our prayers and i know God is doing remarkable things through her!! HUGS
You are not only an ambassador for the Lord by placing Abby and her struggles for us to refocus our attentions on God, but you are also a medical ambassador of sorts, encouraging your medical team to consider newer treatment plans. Thanking God for your medical team, reminding myself that only God is the "primary physician" overseeing all and sincerely praying that your doctors will leave no stone unturned when it comes to treatment - even if it meant transfer, or trying a new protocol.
Beautiful Abby! I love the smiles... Abby is my Hero!
Brent and Michelle,
I am a pediactric critical care RN and currently worse as the nurse for a pediatric conscious sedation IV team that sedates patients for procedures that they couldn't otherwise tolerate; in this case, Abby's intrathecal chemo.
In my opinion, it is the only way to go for children and should definitely be an option for Abby. At my hospital and in my past practices as a pediatric nurse for almost 7 years, it's the only way!!
Best of luck in the future. I pray for Abby diligently!!
Loving her!
Welcome home, Miss Abby! Still praying for you, sweet girl!

I am so happy Abby had a better day today. I do not comment very often, but your family is constantly on my mind. What wonderful parents you are, thank you for being such good examples to the rest of us. I have 3 sons,
11y,10y,and 17 months. My older boys are always asking about Abby, we even tried to make her a video but had problems:( We are trying to make another one so we will send it as soon as I "the know nothing about computers" can figure it out!! Well, I just wanted to let you know that I care about Abby so much.
Many Hugs,
Amber (Las Vegas)
she is so beautiful! chocolate donuts always make me feel better too!
i just wanted to share with you that our housegroup has been praying for abby each week and just today at my bible study, a friend from our housegroup turned and asked me, "so any news on abby?" and i was just touched b/c she was completely genuine and wanted to know what was going on and how to pray. we are all praying for your whole family and we know you are in the thick of the battle right now-draw on the encouragement of your fellow soldiers in this battle, we are on the front lines right along side you in prayer, even if we cannot be physically alongside you!! we were talking about the promised land today and how it was not a land of ease, but a land where battles were fought and expected b/c the victory in those battles was worth it--and that the soldiers were COMMANDED to battle and not asked to "volunteer", it was just expected that they would fight for what God had promised them b/c they know God does not make empty promises. You are in this battle, although you did nto volunteer, but what God has on the other side IS worth it!!!! Thanks for sharing your journey with all of us!
I'm so glad to hear she is home. I pray that this treatment goes well. She looks so happy. God Bless.
