Abby Update: Scary Liver

From Michelle:

Abby needs your prayers more than ever today. Abby's liver enzymes are very high... scary high.

Normal levels are 45-60 (SGOT and ALT)and Abby's are in the 900s. They are not sure what caused the huge jump, but they are running tests.

Abby had a fever all last night (100.8) and this morning it is 101. Abby can't have Tylenol because of her liver and she can't have Motrin because of her platelets are low. So obviously I am praying her temperature doesn't go any higher.

Abby's g-tube still looks angry and infected.

Abby is awake now, happily coloring and watching Disney Movies. Sami has soccer game today, so things will be quieter. Normally we don't prefer quiet, but it will be best for Abby right now.

Here's how Abby really feels. Even surrounded by gifts
she is in a lot of discomfort as you can tell from her
face and demeanor.

But in true Abby fashion, when Momma says "Abby can you
give me a smile?" She does. Sometimes it has to be "Smile for
Travis" when things get REALLY bad.

From Brent:

Michelle doesn't want to appear to be sensational with our updates, and neither do I. However, this liver thing is very serious and concerning. There's not much the Doctors can do about it, and we simply rely on God to protect her.

I will continue to pray for her liver enzymes to go down. I've been doing it a few times today after reading about it. There is something about this child that has drawn me in to her story. I have several people that I will get in touch with who will also pray for her.

Joining you in prayer.

I'm sure the hospital staff is already on it, but a great way to lower a fever without drugs is to place cool clothes at strategic spots on the body - such as under the arms, groin area, in the bend behind the knees, back of the neck, forehead, etc. & of course, as many fluids as she can handle.

Hang in there sweet girl!

Lots of prayers that Abby's Liver count returns to normal. I remember having a scare wih CJ's liver count early on in treatment, and I believe they ended up readjusting the dose on one of his medications, and eventually it resolved itself.

I agree with Shanda as an alternative to help lower body temp. Though I've never met Abby in person or had the opportunity to give her a hug...I had a dream about your sweet daughter being at your home playing on a sofa on top of your hardwood floors - and I had the chance to hug your daughter. Kinda freaky? Felt odd sharing this, but wanted to know that She is loved more and more

Brent, I trust in God, but I hate this. Even after reading and loving and agreeing with what you say about God and about life, it is still hard to accept the bad in my life (caused by someone else - trying to forgive - yet financially and all it's hard to move forward). But, my heart is open and God's hand sare open. Praying deeply for Abby.

Praying. Family praying. Husband's congregation praying. 1-2am is the time I have selected ( i know that sounds nuts but in my house its my first chance at uninterrupted peace) But thats not going to cut it. I will be on my knees as long as they can stand it... then on my chair... praying for y'all.

On a nursie technical note... Have the docs call down for a cooling vest. It will lower her core temp and might just help her feel a little better. also... if they can keep her bag of ringers cooler? it should also work. Another trick? place cold washcloths on the soles of her feet. I don;t know the logic behind the feet thing, but when I was a child and Texas Children's hosp was my second home... this wonderful old nurse showed my mom that trick.. and it works.

I am a night owl.. and will be in deep prayer for hours to come... If in the wee hours, you or Michelle ever need someone to pray with... and the normal people of this world are asleep? email me and I will stop, drop and pray with y'all.

Abby and family - you have been in my thoughts and prayers and in turn my kiddos (9, 4, & 3). You often cross my mind throughout the day and your sweet smile crosses there too. Today as I was driving I heard Steven Curtis Chapman's You are a Soldier and in my heart knew it was a perfect tribut to you Abby and your family. We are all praying for you as your battle the yucky guys (as we call the "c" word - my dad has terminal rcc). Know that you are prayed for and thought of in Missouri - tonight and tomorrow and moments inbetween. God Bless you little angel and give your Mommy, Daddy and siblings the strength they need to care of you, each other and your precious family.

Praying for Abby here in Ohio. What a journey this little fighter is going through. Her sweet smile sometimes hides the pain and exhaustion that she must be feeling. She is absolutely mesmerizing to me and I pray for her throughout the day.
We are praying for her liver numbers and temperature to go down.
Also special prayers for her G-tube site and for her fabulous family for the strength and energy to care for each other.
Praise God for his work through you Brent, with your crazy life you still minister to all of us...
