Abby Update: Storm Clouds are Brewing

After 9 months and 22 hospital visits, Michelle and I are pretty good at seeing the signs of what is to come. Abby has been showing all the indications of a major crisis, maybe the worse to date.

She is back in the hospital as of this morning and this appears to be the most critical episode to date. Abby is in a very significant amount of pain, her skin is starting to break down again, and she has a high fever. Short of God's miraculous intervention, this is going to be a tough, and dangerous week.

The good news, is that she is almost done with "hell phase" and this very well could be the last or next to last crisis (assuming the maintenance phase is "normal", but then again, nothing about Abby's cancer has been normal at all, as compared to other kids).

We appreciate your prayers for her comfort and healing. We will keep you updated every day, multiple times a day if needed. She has survived torture and we are so close to this horrible phase being done, it would be heartbreaking to lose her now.

As for faith, we prepare for the worse, physically and medically, while we pray for the best and put our hope, joy and trust in the Lord's care. We believe His perfect will is done in our life and Abby's, even if part of that will is enduring trials (which it often is, and that is NOT a lack of faith, that is the reality of human experience in a sin-cursed creation which indeed draws us closer to God and increases our longing for the day when the curse of sin will be removed not only spiritually but physically too in ALL creation, not just our flesh).

We'll keep you updated with daily posts... Michelle will use Twitter/Facebook updates for those of you who want to just keep up with actual things that are happening (ie, "Abby got a shot", "Abby is having a procedure", "Abby is sleeping".

Sweet Abby...we are so sorry that you are hurting yet again. You have endured more pain in a few short months than most will deal with in a lifetime. Yet we know that God is with you, and is holding you each step of the way through this journey. We pray that He will bless you abundantly and comfort you in your trials. We pray that He will give wisdom to your doctors, nurses and other caregivers. We pray that He will give strength to your family as they give every ounce of their beings to do whatever they can to care for you. God bless you, dear one. We are praying.

Brent,
I am sooooo sorry to hear this about Abby. My prayers are with her and her family. I know she is a strong little girl, but how much more can this little one stand....only God knows. She is in His hands. I pray that God will ease her pain and sickness. This breaks my heart as i read it, but you and Michelle have to be so worn down, physcially and mentally, i will pray for God's comfort and strength for you both. This baby has touched my heart in ways that i dont understand, she is dear to me, many all over the country know Abby, love her, and are praying for her. God Bless you and your family...stay strong...and never give up.

I just came back from a weekend conference on prayer. One thing I learned is that prayer opens up the door for the things God has already determined in heaven to be brought to earth. You probably already know this, but I wanted to share. I will pray for healing for Abby and for the rest of your family. We're one body in Christ,
Shiny

The Burk Family said...

"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." — John 16:33

Be of good cheer for Christ Jesus suffered for this very reason...to bring us Victory in all trials of this world. We pray "thy kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven."

Sickness does NOT belong to us. It belongs to the one who sent it. Be careful not to lay claim to what belongs to Satan. That cancer or the cancer is NOT Abby's cancer. "Resist the Devil and he will flee from you." James 4:7

"We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written. I believed, and therefore have spoken; we also believe, and therefore we speak." 2 Corinthians 4:13

Our words are direct images of what is in our hearts. The Word says we can have what our heart believes.

Mark 11:22-24
And Jesus answering them saith unto them, Have Faith in God. For Verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye recieve them, and ye shall have them."

Believe in the goodness of the Lord. Lay claim to HIS promises. Just as Abram was called Abraham meaning Father of many nations. God spoke that over him and he laid claim to God's promises.

"As it is written: "I have made you a father of many nations." He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.
Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, "So shall your offspring be." Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah's womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised." Romans 4:17-21

In this sin infested world we encounter Satan's devises, but we are to stand firm in believing the promises of God. Even when our eyes can not see...we still believe!
Paul said, "All I know is Christ Crucified." All he knew was the redemption Jesus offers. Everything else faded into the darkness..his pain...his persecution...the misery of this world...until All he knew was the truth.
Truth says ABBEY IS HEALED!

Love in Christ,
Dana Burk
