Jessica asked:
Depending on how Abby is doing, are you all planning on attending the whole blog reunion thing in Tulsa in June? (if you have no idea what I'm talking about, you can email Kerri/Ruby!)
We would LOVE to go. Of course it depend on Abby's health, hopefully we will be able to go. We are also planning on going to a small reunion for the children in Sami's orphanage.
Riley asked:
Do you know of any other kids that might like a knitted hat?
Yes, we know a lot of children, who are fighting cancer, who would love a hat. Another thing that is really nice, and easy to make, is fun pillowcases for children in the hospital. Abby loves having a fun pillowcase to use when she is at the hospital. It really brightens things up for the children.
Joni asked:
I've just found out (yesterday) that IF I go with Lumpectomy I will have to do SIX WEEKS of Radiation 5 days/wk and driving OUT of TOWN for it :( How tired did Abby (or anyone else reading this) get with Radiation? And Chemo? I'm wondering if Id be able to drive 45 minutes back and forth...
First of all I am so sorry you are going through this. Please keep us updated, so we will know how to pray for you. Abby, didn't get sick right after chemo, they tended to hit her 7-14 days later. Each type of chemo is very different and each person reacts differently to them. Chemo's effects tend to be cumulative, and your reaction maybe worse after a few treatments. My advice to you is to have someone drive you in the beginning, at least until you know better how you will react. Abby didn't receive radiation, so I have no advice about that. Does anyone else have any advice for Joni?
Stacey G. asked:
Hello! Glad Abby is feeling better. I have asked many many times for your home address to mail something for the family but got no response. I will leave you all alone now. If you would like to chat my email address is mockba0204 at optonline.net Stacey and Maya (2 yr old from Guatemala)
I am so sorry, Stacey. I just emailed you. Hopefully it went through.

Just a note to Jodi. I have Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and recieved 25 treatments of radiation to the posterior (back) of the head. To an area on the skull.
My thing would be each cancer, handles each person would handle treatment would be different.
I was able to drive back and forth the first few weeks. After that I had someone help with the driving due to fatigue. I had head aches as well.
I would question the Radiation Oncologist as well as your Techs on what they feel are the possible side effects for your type of cancer and treatment. I am sure they have info on what the possible things are to consider and expect. I know mine were right on the money as to what I might feel.
I to will say a prayer for you. I know its not easy but it is doable.
Thank You Brent & Michelle for your answer... I see the plastic surgeon next week in Duluth so hopefully that'll help make a decision on which way to treat this cancer. :(
I have some advice for Joni......
My six year old son went through 6 weeks of radiation while doing chemo. The radiation was very hard on his body. It was harder on him than chemo, and his chemo protocol was intense.
I know that everyone responds to treatment differently but I would suggest that you have someone lined up to drive you. The first week won't be too bad. But by week 3 you most likely be very tired.
I pray that the Lord will bless your treatments, Joni.
THANK You "Hopesrising" & Belinda, again to Brent & Michelle (sleep & alone time then Bible was needed)... I'll take this all into consideration :) and Thanks to Abby for showing that you did not give up! Love You Ppl Blessings!
Brent - I enjoy reading about your beautiful family and pray for Abby (and all of you) daily - she is such a cutie.
Joni - I also had a lumpectomy, chemo and then 33 radiation treatments. Mine were also 45 minutes away. I asked for an early appointment each day, drove myself 90% of the time (husband occasionally was able to go) and then came back and went to work. I got a little tired at the end, but nothing terrible. Start now using good lotion on your skin and have it in good condition, then use clear aloe gel during your treatments, that will help. I thought the radiation was pretty easy. It takes longer to get undressed than to get the treatment. Of course everyone is different so go by what you feel. Best of luck! By the way, it's been almost 5 years for me and still doing great.
Joni, the first week you will be fine to take yourself. maybe even the second week too but be safe and have someone with you.. as for side effects, i had some serious fatigue, all i wanted to do was sleep. and i did have headaches. im getting ready to start chemo again and i'd rather have radiation instead!
best of luck
