We are so happy to see Abby outside, playing
smiling... being "normal.

Abby is really getting her personality back in full swing.
Pun intended.
From Michelle:
Abby is doing GREAT. Abby is eating well, maintaining her weight and her pain in less over all. She has energy to run and play. She is getting stronger everyday and loves being able to keep up with Landis better. God is so good.
She is doing so wonderfully her doctors recommended taking out her gastric tube. Abby REALLY, REALLY wanted it out. The only catch was they wanted to wait for someone from Surgery to come take it out (because of politics). This would mean waiting for hours for a surgery doctor (or more accurately, a med student, on his/her surgical rotation) to see us.
Taking it out is VERY quick and easy. As a nurse I have done it more times than I can count and I told Abby's PA so. Abby's PA thought a much better idea would be for me to take it out myself and asked if I was willing. I said YES! She asked Abby if she wanted Mommy to take it out or someone else. Abby said Mommy. She was scared, but handled it pretty well. It takes literally about two seconds to remove, so she wasn't scared for long. She said it only hurt a tiny bit. It only took a couple of minutes for the hole to close up. It feels so good to take a huge step towards a more "normal" life.
Afterwards she just wanted Mommy to hold her while she rested. It is tough work being brave when you are four.
Landis, Sami and Abby are all sick, with respiratory viruses. Landis was diagnosed with bronchitis on Sunday. Oddly enough Abby is much less sick than both her siblings and is licking it faster, too. Thanks for praying!
The not so great news, Abby has something that looks like old blood in her stomach contents and has been complaining about abdominal pain. She has been diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer before, so I am concerned. Her gastroenterologist and cancer doctor both agreed it would be best to take her tube out and treat the problem with medication.
Also Abby's immune system has taken a nose dive. Her ANC was 6000 last week and is now in the 659. If it is under 500, she will be stuck at the house and eating fresh veggies/fruits will be considered dangerous. I am praying it stays over 500. We all enjoy our freedom, but will do what is necessary to keep her safe.
Abby's hair continues to grow and her eyelashes and eyebrows are coming back. She has taken to carrying a mirror around, while doing a happy dance for all of her new hair. It is going to take months to grow back, but she is thrilled with any progress. Several parents of cancer kids are warning that hair can occasionally thin and even come completely out during maintenance (Abby's next 2 years). In fact, we know a girl who is losing her hair, 6 months before she is finished with chemo.
We will hang on to Abby's wig, hats and ponytails, but choose to enjoy every hair on her head as long as they are there. Honestly, I don't expect her to be bald again, but I appreciate the heads up so I don't promise Abby something I don't have any control over.
The kids miss their daddy and I miss Brent so much it hurts. Brent is such a wonderful father and husband there is a huge void here when he is gone.
Please pray:
- Thank God her liver is improving and her g-tube is out.
- Abby's stomach to heal, inside and out.
- Her pain to continue to decrease.
- Her liver to heal.
- And of course, for her to remain cancer free.
We would also appreciate your prayers for Brent's safety while he in away.
Please also continue to pray for Kayleigh. Her story is heartbreaking. She needs a miracle.

Thank you for the update Michelle!! I so look forward to hearing about Abby (and the rest of the family)!!
As soon as the picture of Abby came up, and before I read the post, I thought to myself "Wow! Look at Abby's hair coming back!"
What a gorgeous little girl. I'll keep all of you in my prayers!
Praising Him with you Michelle!
Praying with you!
Praying for Kayleigh - my heart is breaking for Adam and Aimee for sure!
God knows her name and is watching over her right now!
Love you all,
Jill
One of my good friends is currently undergoing chemo for Hodgkin Lymphoma and doesn't want to become a shutter bug. When his white cell count is high enough, he'll even come out to happy hour with us. One of his tricks when eating out is to only order drinks that come with sealed twist tops and NOT have restaurant staff open it. Also he orders food in to-go containers even when eating in the restaurant. He says it cuts down on germs. Finally he uses the antibacterial hand alcohol-gel sanitizer, which I am sure you do. Just thought I would pass on some tips. Not that I know as much as you who have been there and done that, but just pass them on incase they help.

What a blessing that Abby is seeing so much improvement. God is good!!! Hope she, Landis, and Sami are all feeling better asap!
As a nurse myself, I would have done the same thing by pulling it out myself. I'm so glad that Abby happy about that. I will continue to pray for her and for Brent's safe return.
She is such a little cutie! God is so good!
It is so wonderful to see pictures of Abby smiling and enjoying her days. I'm glad the tube is out!
I pray your household will be virus free very soon!
God bless you all,
Beth

Can I just say AMEN!!! (ok, that was the last post, but close enough!) Abby looks FANTASTIC and I'm so glad to hear she's doing (mostly) well. We're praying for your intentions.
Also praying very hard for Kayleigh and her family. I cannot imagine what her family has been through. Thanks for letting us know so that we can pray for them.
Blessings,
Becky
This is pretty much all I ever say in my comments, but Abby is just so cute!! There is just something about her. Praying for the sweet girl and so glad she is free from the g-tube!!
Do they ever use nupogen for low WBC in children? They used it for my husband, so I was just wondering.
I know what it is like to have your husband away from home. Mine is gone way more than I want him to be, but we thank God for his job (even if it does take him out of town). I know you must really miss the craziness that Brent brings into the home.
I think it so appropriate that you were the one to remove the g-tube and know that Abby trusts you more than any doctors.
Will continue to pray for all of you and the pictures of Abby are so cute. Her hair is growing some and I know that makes her happy.
Am praying for the Freemans also.

I am so happy for Abby and for all of you. I know that she needs continued prayer, but this is such good news. I want you to know that Abby has been a wonderful prayer project for my girls. They have become so anxious to learn about any news regarding Abby, and even though they were aware that the news might not be good, they have learned more and more to trust in Jesus. (They are older child adoptions, and trust is a big thing to learn for them.)

Well Kya has never seen the movie or Cartoon...and all of a sudden Spidey comes on the tv and Kya stands up and hollors MOM SPIDEY LANDAS IS ON TV....It was SO FUNNY. I had to explain to everyone who Spidey Landas was. So Landas you really do have a Mary Jane that totally Believes YOU ARE THE REAL SPIDEY...

Yeah Michelle! I am so happy to read some great new with sweet Abby! I have missed reading everyone's blogs lately--but now that our life is slowly calming down and a little bit of normalcy has returned, I can sit back and take it all in. I am thrilled to see some good news with taking out the tube and seeing her outside! She looks so happy!!!
I am continuing to pray for her liver, her stomach, the next two years of chemo and for her to be cancer free! That would be bliss!!!
(((Hugs)))

Abby looks great! My immediate thought was that the sparkle is back in her eyes! She doesn't look so exhausted and sick anymore!
Thanks so much for taking time out of your day to update us all on Abby's Battle!Prayers for all from SpringHill Fl.
Hello beautiful Miss Abby!!! It is so wonderful to see her up and around in the "real world". You can definately see the sparkle (or is that mischeviousness, oh surely not) back in her eyes. She's not Daddy's girl on that account is she?! Congrats on the g-tube out.
Praying the ANC goes back up so she can stay in the real world. Also praying for her stomach.
Still praying...
What amazing images of Abby just being a kid.Happy and her smiley self. What an absolute blessing.Prayers for more of the same carefree days.
It's been a week or so since I checked. Praise the LORD for good news for Abby!
