Bad Boys, Spidey Boys, Whatcha Gonna Do...
The TV show "COPS" got wind of my illegal odious versification, and sent a film crew over. They got one look at SpideyLandis, and put him to work filming the opening them song for the show:
April Fools
Looks like about 97% of the readers thought the April Fools was funny. I only ran off 3% of our blog friends who thought negatively of it, but that's a lower percentage than the number I usually run off when I take a public stand on a Christian issue.
If you missed it, for most of the day today, when you came to our blog, you were immediately taken over to this NOTICE. Of course, most of the fun was thinking it was real, so...
Next year, my goal is to make 5% of our blog friends mad at me. Continuous improvement... we should always strive to get better.
FYI... odious means "bad", and versification means "writing". That was the pinnacle of my writing creativity. It's all downhill from here.
More Awful Comments
You know, I thought we had run off the people calling us names and saying mean things about us but I got all sorts of insults today:
- I am certifiable
- I'm terrible
- I'm someone who would "pull" something
- I'm a bad boy
- I'm the fool
- I'm rotten
- I'm mean
- I stopped a couple of people's hearts
- I made one person poop their big girl undies
- I'm unforgivable
- I'm REALLY mean
- I'm not nice
- I'm "poop"
- I'm shameless and shameful
- I callously almost caused several nervous breakdowns
- I'm really awful
- I'm a booger... yes, a BOOGER
- Evidently I SUCK
- One person wants to clobber me
- I'm naughty
- I'm officially hated now
- I'm a mess
You know, I have only one thing to say to all you people who wrote those ugly things:
YOU TOTALLY MADE MY DAY!!!!!
I haven't laughed so hard, so many times in one day in months. I've been cracking ribs all day. Absolutely the most fun, the most laughs, the most light hearted, entertaining day we've had in many many months. If you haven't read the comments, you should (click here), they are funnier than my April Fool's prank. THANK YOU!!! BLESS YOU!!!
Now, I'm off to repent of my wicked ways.
~ Brent
PS. For the 2-3 commenters who were actually mad, said they wouldn't be back to our blog, that our Christian testimony is suffering and people are now starting to doubt our story... how do you respond to that? It's cool if someone didn't like the April Fool's joke and bids "adios" to our blog, but to say our Christian testimony is being diminished, it was a sick joke that ignores the seriousness of Abby's illness and I am casting doubt on our integrity.... I just don't get it. Sorry.
One guy, some "Bruce Hess" fella was actually hoping I'd been arrested! Can you believe that??? He's probably some Pastor or something....
Maybe (hopefully) they are just April Fooling me back...
Abby update later this evening...

Thos 2-3 who were actually mad need to get a life. Did they seriously not have any idea what today was? They might be the ones who think Christians have to be all solemn and serious and stern all the time. At any rate, they probably weren't too tuned in anyway.
Can't wait for some Abby news!! And, I thought the prank was hilarious!! I am in awe of your computer skills! I didn't quite fall for it, because I knew what odious versification means, but the way you photoshopped yourself and all the computer screen switching- just WOW!! Incredible!!
I honestly laughed over this all day at work. TOO funny.
Brent, when our granddaughter was small she could sing this song. One night after we picked them up, she and her brother were in the back seat of the car and the song came on the radio. She started singing and suddenly she looked over at her brother and said, "Hey, Nathan, what you gonna do when they come for you?"
She was 3, he was 6.
I enjoyed the April Fool's joke...some people need to relax and enjoy life a little more. Looking forward to the Abby update! :)
I'm so sick of nasty people...I wish everyone would just lighten up a bit. Good grief.. I loved Spidey Landis in his schmancy spidey shirt! :)
The first time I looked up Odious whatch-ma-callus it took me to a page that said it someone who couldn't throw away anything...a hoarder....then I got scared that I had it too (just check my junk drawer and the tubs where I keep all my kids drawings...proof baby!!) Enjoy the rest of your day ya big booger!!
I totally knew it was a joke from the start, but I still thought it was hilarious! And I actually had to google "odious" and "versification" because I had no clue what you were saying you were "guilty" for. So now I'm a little smarter from your joke! Well, too bad some people can't take a joke. You seem like a goofy, silly dad, just like my dad and husband. But I tell them it is so much better to have a dad with a sense of humor, than a completely serious, no humor type of dad.
Will be checking back for Abby's update! I realized that as she continues to get better, and daily updates become not-so neccesary, we will miss it! My girls ask about Abby everyday. Still praying!
I thought for a minute it had something to do with that virus that was due to activate today. I was just about to freak out! I googled your name to see what I could find. Then I went back and let it finish and answered the questions. You got me!
If I've said it once, I've said it a million times about people getting their panties in a bunch over things like this...lighten up people! Sheesh!
Okay, I said you were horrible for doing this but it was only because you had me so much. I didn't really think you were horrible. I can't believe people would think this would discredit your christian testimony!!! What?!?!?! You did good. And hopefully I won't fall for it next year!
Tell those dorks who didn't like it to get a life. Just because you have a sick little girl doesn't mean that you can't have a sense of humor. GOOD GRIEF!
Even in my current severe pain, I had a big belly laugh over those comments. I needed that. Thanks. :)
I was hurryin this morning when I clicked on your blog. I have to admit for a minute my heart was in my throat that this had happened to you.. Then I was like.. Hahaha.. yeah right that is Brent Riggs, and He is having a wonderful April Fools Day!!
So thankful I was right, but I have to say it looked good.. Had me a for a minute. Thanks for a great beginning to a great April Fools day!!! Can't wait for next year.
Maybe you should do some teaching on the characteristics of Grace and its freedoms we have in Christ as opposed to the dictates of legalism.
I'm not sure panic stricken is a good description but when I first came to the site this morning it really threw me. As I goggled the words "odious versification" the only thing I could figure was you'd REALLY made the powers that be EXTREMELY ANGRY and they were putting an end to it all. However, after much searching and coming back to the site and doing a little investigating then clicking on the last link it was with great relief my soul magnified our Lord.
What was totally hilarious was the comments; THEY were funny, even the negative ones. Can't believe someone would leave over being joked with.
Oh well, we are just people made of dust, some dustier that others. :-)

HIS Amazing Grace
Aside from the fact that that was a great April Fool's trick (I can never seem to pull them off), I for one was impressed with your mad computer skills!
Seriously? People were truly angry? You know, with everything that's going on anymore, you'll go crazy if you DON'T have a sense of humor! Lighten up and have some fun! :)
The 3% of the readers are poop themselves.. If you can't have a little fun in all that you have going on then their the POOPS..
Very funny Brent!
You made my heart stop with your April Fools joke (I really freaked out aka I'm a sucker!), but I still love you guys to pieces, and hope one day -- preferably before heaven -- I get to meet you in person.
Have a great night. :)
That was a great April Fool's day joke! Enjoyed it...and OMGOsh...SpideyLandis looked so darn cute singing it! Thanks for the chuckle. :) God Bless and waiting for that Abby update. :) Peace.
Amanda
I admit, I also had to google "odious" and "versification" LOL. I do also admit when I saw "Urgent" on my dashboard, I did immediately thing something was wrong with Abby, but I quickly realized something else was going on..... :) Good one!
GREAT JOB!!! I actually missed the first post, but loved the story.
I can't believe the comment issues you have mentioned recently. What a joke they are: Sami a slave...I don't think they read the same blog I do. If she is, I must say you treat your slaves VERY well and they look so beautiful and happy.
Also, you being mean to Michelle. I am guessing they read the ONE post where you were glad she was finally coming home to do the chores, pamper you, get the yard straightened up, etc. Again, maybe if they would read more than one post they would have been able to catch the sarcasm.
I personally love checking your blog. Not only does it give us updates on Abby and the family; but we also get links of other prayers that need to go up, chances to laugh in a good way at others, ways to learn more about our Father, His words, and reminders or new ways to consider His lessons, and OH MY GOSH we even get to laugh.
Thank you for all that you do for so many people, but most importantly for our Father!!!!!!!!!!!
You did get me this morning - I was concerned for a minute! Ok, maybe two minutes. But once I got through the picture I was cracking UP!
People really need to LIGHTEN UP!!!!
It didn't work this morning when I tried it. When the page changed, I just got one of those pages you get when a site is down. But I figured you'd done something funny! LOL
Brent,
I called you a POOP. I didn't mean it in a bad way. I was just saying you got me good. I was feeling so mad that the authorities would do that to you. Soo...you
got me good and I was relieved when I realized it was April 1st. My 9 year old put icy hot on the toliet seat and I sat down...guess what he got me too. Oh you funny funny guys. Your prank is by far the best I have ever experienced. Hugs to Abby.
I remembered right away it was April Fools Day so I left a comment saying I thought it looked like it could be a death penalty trial....I was totally kidding. I hope it didn't come across as I really thought you should be put to death for talking too much. Sorry if I offended....
I am tired of those bad comments for you all. What you and Michelle do for your kiddos is amazing and REAL! Keep it up :)
~Elyse~
That is absolutely hilarious! I didn't see it this morning either, but going back and reading all of it has been the highlight of my day!
And to those silly people getting mad ~ Get a life!
well, i'm still MAD! ;)
Personally, I am getting tired of reading about how 'bad' everyine is treating you. Can't you just blow it off and get on with it?? There are those of us who offer prayer support, affection and love. Forget about the rest....
said they wouldn't be back to our blog, that our Christian testimony is suffering and people are now starting to doubt our story
since when aren't Christians allowed to have fun? :)
Loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fams4God
Dude! Thankfully I missed this earlier...busy day...I tend to over react!
If Michelle was holding you back I can't even imagine what else you could have come up with !
Mad skills dawg. (Been watching Randy Jackson too much)
I think some people don't realize how very much a person who is constantly dealing with crises like your family does, needs the light moments, the laughter, the times to just belly laugh. It is a reminder that life goes on, that it isn't all heartache, that God is good. When I had a miscarriage, I was surfing on the internet and found a forum with hilarious jokes on it. It was so healing for me, as well as a much-needed distraction from the heaviness. So laugh when you can!
That was GREAT, Best 1 I Have Seen so Far, I was Laughing so Hard & The Comments were even Funnier, THANKS for the Laugh.
You kind of are a 'poop' Brent, but a VERY funny, VERY clever poop and that is why we love you. I'm sorry about the ugly comments you guys have had. Wow, who ever said you can't have fun when you are a Christian? And who ever said that when your daughter has leukemia you can't ever laugh again? I'm pretty much thinking Miss Abby is pretty much proud of her clever 'poop' of a daddy. :0) Amy
You know I think I was one that said you were rotten but I certainly didn't mean it in a bad way! I thought it was just hilarious but you are still rotten!! HAHA!! I will be ready for next year!!!
I personally LOVED the prank!!! I mean please people - a little fun to lighten the mood every now and then is good for the soul! I just don't understand people who took offense and actually had the b*lls to write you a nasty note....Ah God Bless Em there are always a few in the crowd!
Looking forward to next year...Better start your research now to get that 5% for the next one!!!
Prayers far Abby as always... Peace!
I am so glad Abby has such a fun daddy!! I know that helps her get through the awful, painful times!! Chris, Eliana, and I are HUGE Riggs Family FANS!!!!
My 4th grade class is following Abby's story and insist that we check each day for updates. I am able to project my computer screen onto a larger wall screen so they can actually see the photos. This morning when I checked your site - always check first so I know what I will need to explain - I just grinned and decided to have some fun. With a totally straight face, I told them that there was some serious news about Abby's dad to share. They watched with their mouths wide open as the photo of you in the police car appeared. They literally gasped as the "mug shot" showed up. They started to protest loudly yelling "Why?, Why?" and "He couldn't have done anything wrong, he's ABBY'S DAD!" and "Wait, he's a good guy!" As I read them the charges, several started to "get" it. Then the rest caught on and the class erupted in laughter. They asked me to tell you that they were impressed and you are really good at April's Fools Day. High praise from this age group. Nobody - I mean absolutely nobody was offended. They thought it was absolutely cool that you, an adult after all, was able to put one over on them. Oh, by the way, they made me look up the words because they just had to know what you were guilty of - they knew you wouldn't lie to them.
Thanks for the smiles,
Cindy

I cannot believe some people got so worked up about this! I have only read your blog for a short time and I knew it was a joke (and thought it was VERY funny!) The people who think having laughing and having fun discredits your testimony are sadly missing out on the joy a relationship with Christ brings...I actually feel sorry for their eternal loss!
You know--we have fun with our kids all the time. I love your creativity! What a fun Daddy you are! They are blessed to have such a Daddy that is fun, lives what he preaches and teaches, and is compassionate!
i thought that blogger really was going to turn it off as an april fool's joke. that's why i said "i'm not laughing." but a few seconds after i wrote that, it clicked and although my heart skipped several beats, it WAS pretty funny - i mean, that picture of you in the car was brilliant photoshopping!

You are so funny. Love your sense of humor. We are going to have a blast in heaven.
BEST! APRIL! FOOL'S! JOKE! EVER!
Anyone who is offended or angry needs to go buy a sense of humor!
*high fives Brent*
Those comments were hi-la-ri-ous!
What do these people think? You shaved Abby's beautiful black hair off for the hell of it? How do they explain hospital photos? Fake hospital setup in your living room? LOL! In the words of my 2.5 yr old "that is redonkulous".
I can't believe people were crying. I'm laughing over that.
Hey Riggs Family! I usually don't comment-but I had to after I read how many people were actually upset by your April Fool's prank. What a bunch of babies! I thought it was totally cool-that is of course -once I realized that it WAS a prank-and not true or an ugly virus. Love your blog-your witness and your family! You ROCK-keep it up!!
just for the record, yes i said i officially hated you. BUT i was kidding. i thought you did an excellent prank that was very ORIGINAL and i laughed when i realized i had been had. and i am glad that i made you laugh in return. a little spot of silliness is not going to cause me to stop reading your blog or praying for your sweet little Abby. so no i dont hate you. just thought i would clear that up
lots of love and prayers for Abby

Some people just do not have a sense of humor! And that is really sad for them, laughter is the best medicine out there, and you and your family deserve more laughter than anyone! Best Wishes to you all!
Keep up the good work!
