From Brent
The end of our last post where I was wishing you Christmas blessings… it was not sarcastic or in response to someone’s negative comment. I may not have communicated it well but it was nothing more a reminder for me and Michelle, that we don’t want everything to be about us (love us, think of us, care about us). We want to make sure that you know we are thinking about you, appreciate you, and care about you too. It was a poorly communicated reminder that we think of you, as you think of us.
From Michelle
Abby was admitted to the hospital at 11:00am this morning after a very long night in ER. Abby’s white blood cells have tanked. We start keeping her home when her ANC is 750 (her immunity; the number that represents her body’s ability to fight infection). Abby’s ANC is now 300. Not good.
Abby is very nauseated, so she is not eating or drinking much of anything. She is not keeping it down anyway so there is no point in making her eat.
She looks tired when she is awake but breaths fine. When she is asleep her breathing is labored and there are brief periods of time when she stops breathing completely. Then she sucks in this asthmatic sounding breath. As you can imagine I don’t sleep when she is awake and I can’t sleep when she is asleep either when she’s doing this.
Her doctor expects Abby’s intracranial pressure it be elevated on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. It is hard to figure out what to do for all of the kids when Abby will probably need a spinal tap on the 24th or 25th.
Thank you for praying for Abby.
For those who want more detail about the medical situation, continue on….
Abby specializes in VERY rare medical problems/side effects. Stinks for Abby, but the good news for everyone else is that these problems rarely occur. Abby is sleeping as I write this and having periodic apnea. Makes it very hard to concentrate on what I am writing.
Abby returned to ER at 3 am because of breathing problems. She was admitted to the hem/occ floor at 11 am today. When Abby is awake she is breathing normally. The only change I notice when she is awake is that her voice sounds monotone.
When Abby is sleeping she is constantly retracting above her collarbone when she breathes in. She occasionally has periods where she is retracting in between her ribs and below her sternum. She has some nasal flaring and makes a noise in her throat that has been diagnosed inspiratory stridor. Abby's O2 sats have gotten no lower than 90% on room air. She is working hard but maintaining adequate oxygenation.
Abby is having periods of apnea lasting 5-10 seconds. Her chest x-ray is fairly clear and a CT scan diagnosed her with a sinus infection. Even though she has a sinus infection, I don't think the above is related to it. Her sinus infection is very mild. Abby's ANC has dropped to 300, she is nauseated and vomiting, and not eating or drinking.

Michelle,
I left you a long message on the ALL-Kids listserv. Have the drs consider vincristine-induced partial vocal chord paralysis? Elke had this, a "rare" side effect of the vincristine.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Praying for Abby! I really hope she starts feeling better! I know stridor breathing can be really scary. My youngest daughter had it when she was born. It scared me to death. We are praying for Abby to start feeling better very soon. I can't imagine what you are going through as well as parents. Just know that you are being prayed over as well!
Thank you for your updates. I have been praying for sweet Abby and for your family all day and will continue to do so. Stay strong.

Is it possible that she is asthmatic? That's probably the last thing she needs, on top of everything else, but I am asthmatic and so is my daughter. A lot of what you are describing sounds like some of the early symptoms we noticed when our daughter was first manifesting asthma symptoms.
Whatever the cause, she & your entire family are in my prayers. God Bless.
BIG HUGS to all of you as we contiue to pray for God's grace and mercy to spread and keep covering every second of your days!
Love
Linda
Please know that Prayers from Tennessee are still going up for you sweet Abby girl...
We are praying for your family as well, and we know God's hand of protection is on you all.
In His Name,

Not sure about anyone else, but I took your Christmas blessing as exactly that. I thought it was nice of you to think of others in such a stressful time. Hope Abby is feeling better soon and that you all have a great Christmas. :)
So sorry to hear all of this. Michelle this must be just awful for you. I hope that Abby can get a restful nights sleep and so can you. Prayers and hugs for you and Abby!!!
Poor sweet girl- such a trooper... I have to say I would be curled up in the fetal position. And then there is the two of you, such courage- as always I'm amazed. I can offer prayer and comic relief if needed and we're not far from you so holler- seriously.
Praying!!!! Thank you for sharing the specifics so we can pray for you more specifically!!! Cyber HUGS coming your way!!!!!!
Praying for Abby, you guys, and Abby's siblings. I know it's tough on her and the whole family. I pray that you get some relief soon and for complete healing for Abby's little body.
So sorry. Sending hugs your way.
Love in Jesus,
Amy
Praying for complete healing for sweet Abby...this just stinks! God Bless! Angie
I stumbled across your blog several months ago and was saddened to read about the latest turn of events. I will send all my prayers your way!!!
Praying for you guys!!
Prayers for you and Abby.
Sleep apnea in a healthy child is bad enough, much less in a child w/ all Abby's stuff.
Nothing like Christmas w/ your head full of cotton wool.
Prayed long and hard for Abby and you today.
Love,
Sandy
I know this is like comparing apples and oranges...but this is exactly how my daughter presented when she had RSV. Just a thought. Praying for you guys!
Praying for you all....

oh I hate this for you. I just want you all to have a break, I'm so sorry. I wish I lived nearby and could help you all out, but I will continue to pray b/c I know God is ALWAYS near and WILL help out however He best sees fit. Cling to Him and His goodness, even in this hard time. And the good thing is that you can even postpone Christmas a day or 2 and your other children won't much notice a difference (except maybe your older son of course, but he will be a good sport, right?? :) ) once you get your celebrating on!! I am asking God for a BIG gift for your family and your Abby this year!!
Anna devloped breathing problems as well. I even taped her while she slept to show the drs. It turned out to be a fungal infection in her throat/GI tract. Some medicine knocked it out. You might ask if this is a possibility.
Praying and sharing the prayer request with others. May God's hand be on your family tonight.
Michele, I thank you for the update on Abby. I am praying for her. I purchased Brent's digital e-book and couldn't believe that in the midst of all your family is going through that he was concerned about writing another chapter. I wrote back that there's no rush and don't worry. He's very talented and thorough but he need not worry about this stuff. My heart goes out to you. Please know that you are not forgotten and that your sisters in Christ are praying for you, your family, Abby and the medical staff who care for Abby.
Sending you a hug,
Debbie
Praying for sweet Abby and for the whole family during this exhausting time. May God's peace and rest be with you.
Just a note to let you know that in this time of hustle and bustle we are praying for your sweet Abby to feel Gods healing hand on her. We are also praying for your family as this is so hard on everyone and especially during the CHRISTmas season. Blessings and healing.
Michele and Brent,
I, too, took your blessing and thinking of all of us as just that... a blessing and I appreciate it. With all you are going through, don't feel you owe anybody apologies because you don't.
As for Christmas with the kids, just remember that nobody knows the "exact" date that Jesus was born so just celebrate your family Christmas when Abby is feeling better and goes home. There is nothing wrong with that being December 30th or even sometime in January. (a lot of military people do it this way). Christmas isn't a date, but a birth.
my prayers are lifted to a mighty God for all of you, especially sweet Abby.
love and prayers...

I will be thinking of you and yours! Hope you all are able to have a magical Christmas anyway.
They ruled out any clots? Have they done MRI/CT wtih contrast? I know with my daughter they did it without and missed it then found it with the contrast tests. She had the apenic episodes and stridor as well. It was related to her increased ICP, chiari one malformation, and sagital sinus venous thrombisis. Can they install a shunt that is adjustable? That way they can turn it off and just turn it on when the pressure needs relieving? Not sure hwo that affects the chemo and Abby's neuro system. Praying for you Michelle! I will be thinking of you while I am gone in China. I wont be able to checki in during that time. My daughter 4 yr Heaven anniversary is approaching and I will be praying for all of you and know that Chelsea will be sending some extra love to Abby from above!!!
praying,praying,praying for you guys!!!
