Spinal Taps and Tap Dancing

From Michelle:

The headaches are back. Not surprising, but very disappointing. They are not to the point that I would ordinarily call the doctor but it would be a long painful weekend if her intracranial pressure shot up and I missed it. I don't want her to hurt all weekend just because I would rather put my head in the sand. As rotten as the spinal taps are, they are nothing compared to the migraines she's had in the last few weeks.

I am very weary of consenting to painful procedures. Abby still trusts me and almost never complains. I wish she just had normal "kid" things to deal with.

Then I think about our friends whose precious children are no longer with them and I remember we are truly blessed and have nothing to complain about.

I have a friend who is praying and asking everyone she knows to pray that her daughter HAS meningitis. Can you imagine begging God for a diagnosis of meningitis??? I'm asking that you pray that beautiful Elke has meningitis. Why? If she doesn't... it means her cancer has spread.

Cancer is a strange world. Things that used to scare the stuffing out of us are what we long for because they aren't as bad as the alternative. Bizarre.

Would you do me a favor? Would you stop by Elke's blog and let her mom know you are praying for her daughter? Your comments and prayers have been a lifeline to me these past weeks. Being a cancer mom can be very lonely. Knowing others care about our children makes a tough journey easier.

Would you pray that Abby sedates easily during her spinal tap, isn't scared and is comfortable? Please also pray that the spinal fluid is clear of cancer cells and for wisdom as we decide how to help Abby.

Abby only wants you to pray that she will be able to go to school Friday afternoon. She wants to see her friends and play. She is usually pretty loopy after procedures, but I would love for her to get to be there.

I wonder what Mrs Edwards will think about a happy "drunk" showing up at her class? ;-)

Abby loves dance class.

Nothing cuter than little girls learning to dance...

Abby is the youngest and smallest...

Dance is FUN!

Praying for you and Abby. You're SO not alone. I know you know this deep down. But all these tests can make a momma weary.
My son had his first MRI today.
As a momma all you want is for the source of the pain to be treatable. So I totally understand where you and Elke's mom are coming from.
love in Christ,

Michelle,

I am praying that everything goes smoothly with Abby today, and that the drs can figure out a good and palatable way of treating her ICH. It seems like with cancer, these kids should somehow get a "pass" on other things. Unfortunately, that just doesn't seem to be happening for Abby. But God can work miracles, and also help us cope with pain and disappointment. Abby and your family are in my prayers every day.

And thanks so much for rallying the "prayer warriors" for Elke! You're right, it is a great "picker upper" when things seem bleak to know that others are offering your concerns up to the Lord.

Thank You all.

2 years ago I would never have thought I would see "spinal tap & tap dancing" together, but after following Abby and other children, it doesn't seems so strange now.

Abby still amazes me with her sheer determination and smile. May God always keep this in her heart.

You are not alone even though I know you must feel like it so many times. You have so many people who are praying for Abby and your family probably around the clock. But even greater than that... God and His angels are always there with you. He won't forsake you.

I will check out Elke's blog site and will pray for her, too. As always, I am praying for Abby.

Love and prayers...

What a beautiful girl and a pretty dancer!
I know that it stinks to not get to be a NORMAL kid, but God has made our girls special for a reason. I sometimes wonder what that reason is when they get hooked up for a chemo treatment.

Take care and Praying for Abby!

i was 22 last year when i had my first shunt put in for Intracranial Hypertension (aka hydrocephalus, aka pseudo tumor cerebri) and i TOTALLY understand the pain of increased pressure

on Monday i'm being hospitalized for a shunt tap (no more spinal taps for me, YAY, because they can go in through the shunt instead of my spine) and some CT scans to see if i need my next brain surgery next week or if it can wait awhile.

plus i get DAILY migraines that are unrelated. i know pain on a level most can't even imagine. so i understand the pain your little girl goes through.

praying.

How sweet are those dance pics?!?!? Praying for you all, and especially for Abby to be relieved of those awful headaches. Let me know if there is anything I can do. And know that you are in our prayers constantly.

Our Abby was having seizures every 5 to 10 minutes for a period of about 3 months. It was devastating. I was consenting for all kinds of nasty things to be done to my then 3 yo. She took it like a champ. It came down between 2 terrible possibilities, an enzyme deficiency that led to her death, and a disease that was eating her brain and required half her brain to be disconnected. I prayed NIGHTLY for the 2nd one because at least I could probably keep her. It did end up being the brain disease, she had the surgery and she is doing well. Although permanently physically disabled, I got to keep my daughter. I continue to pray for your daughter, and will add the other family to my list.

Merry Christmas,

I can't imagine anyone wanting to do that to families who are in too much pain alrady. Michaelle and Family, I pray for you all. I've been trying to find out what Abbey's ailment is, and from what I gather from one of the comments it's some type of cancer? I hope you don't think this forward of me, but I believe that Our God is a God of Healing. It is Not His wish that we be sick, so I REBUKE THIS SICKNESS IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST. According to His Word, anything we ask in His name shall be done and by His stripes we are Healed. Lord, I thank you for Abbey's Healing in advance, because You are the Great Physician. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.

Y'all are also now on my Prayer Line. God Bless You.
