Update on Abby and Happy New Year

From Maria Michelle

Abby is home, pain free and smiling. Her spinal tap went great, she wasn't scared at all and her breathing was perfect. God is good. She did take her now-customary 6 hour "nap" after her sedation but the extra rest has given her a burst of energy that we are treasuring.

Garrett is doing much better tonight. No complaints of pain and the physical therapists are impressed with how hard he is working. He is doing so well they are moving him to a rehab hospital tomorrow! That is a huge step towards being ready to come home.

Thank you for praying for our family and for taking the time to write us. In the tough moments, your words bring us much comfort. Abby was thrilled with the birthday messages. Thank you for making her feel loved.

When I look back over the last year there are a lot of painful experiences I could focus on but what remember the most are the people who have stood beside our family, prayed for us and reached out us when we were hurting and celebrated each victory.

God has truly blessed our family during 2009. We had 365 precious days with our children, made many new friends, and were loved and cared for by our family and church friends.

My hope for the new year is that we will have more opportunities to help others and to serve God.

From Brent

I want to say as well, THANK YOU! for all your kind notes and attention. It is truly amazing that thousands of people we have never seen can truly make up a "family" that cares about us. Amazing...

Happy New Year From Abby & Sami

They were the only ones left with any energy at the stroke of midnight!

I am praying that 2010 is a better year for your sweet little Abby (and now Garrett too). That sweet tiny little girl deserves to have a pain-free Cancer free year. I still think what a miracle it was that she got to have her Make A Wish trip when she did. I could not imagine the disappointment it would have been for her to have been this sick in Florida, let alone trying to navigate unfamiliar doctors and hospitals.

Happy New Years Riggs Family....so thankful that God is still working miracles.I praise Him for all He has done, all He is doing now, and all that He is going to do.Sometimes we wonder why things happen to us, but one day we will understand it all. My prayer is for God to keep His loving hand upon your children, heal them, and for us all to give Him the praise and glory for it all.I liked what Michelle said " we had our children 365 days last year....that is a lot to be thankful for, but just think of how many don't ever even think of that, we need to keep those people on our hearts, that they will come to realize and take God in their hearts.., trust in Him,to live for Him, before it is too late. I could not make it 1 day without Jesus, i know, i tried, and i never want to go back to that....never. Abby, i love you, keep that smile on that sweet little face, you will get through this sweetheart, God is on your side.

So glad she's home! She looks wonderful in the picture! Beautiful babies for sure! :o) I asked my brother who is a Neurologist about Abby sleeping after the spinal taps. He said her body is so tired from the pain and the tap that it's getting much needed catch-up rest. She is just adorable!
