I am sorry it has taken me this long to update you all. It is very hard to know what to write. We are praising God for the great news we received but still begging Him to continue to heal Abby.
The pulmonologist said that the sweat test showed she doesn't have cystic fibrosis. At this point there is only a 2 % chance she will later be diagnosed with it. Praise God! BUT he said that he will treat her just like she has cystic fibrosis. Abby's lungs are a mess, she has super thick mucus like kids with CF and her immune system is being kept low on purpose (her cancer mimics white blood cells). Abby's lungs are filled with things that wouldn't hurt most people but is dangerous for someone on chemo.
Will Abby's long term prognosis be better since she doesn't have CF? Yes, most likely. But we have been warned that some of the damage being done to her may cause life long problems.
One of her chemo drugs (Methotrexate) is notoriously bad on lungs and she needs to take it weekly until November. All of the kids who I know have been taken off of this drug early have relapsed. It normally takes 6 months for immune systems to recover after chemo is stopped.
So, am I praising God that Abby doesn't have cystic fibrosis? Absolutely. But Abby's doctor is still very concerned so I will keep praying for complete healing.
Thank you for standing along beside us and praying for Abby.
Can you tell Abby has that "look Dad I'm smiling for you even
though I feel terrible" kind of thing going?
